Liverpool are still sweating on the extent of Dejan Lovren’s injury in their bid to win the Champions League but semi-final opponents Roma appear to have survived their own defensive scare.
With Joel Matip expected to miss the rest of the season with a thigh injury, the Reds are facing the prospect of going into their last four showdown without a second centre-back available.
Lovren had to exit Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Bournemouth seven minutes from the end and when Kostas Manolas was forced out of Roma’s derby match against Lazio in the 74th minute, their opponents faced similar fears.
The 26-year-old was dubbed ‘The Greek god in Rome’ after he headed in Roma’s decisive third goal in their 3-0 victory over Barcelona to knock the Catalan giants out on the away goals rule.
However, it has now transpired that Manolas was only suffering from cramp after starring in a brace of huge matches in less than a week and he is now expected to be fit for their Serie A home game against Genoa on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Liverpool must wait on further information over the extent of Lovren’s injury.
