Head of the Syrian regime Bashar Assad received on Saturday a message from Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi.

Delivered by head of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) and National Security Advisor, Falih al-Fayadh, the message tackled bilateral ties and the importance of maintaining coordination between Damascus and Baghdad on all levels, especially in combating terrorism.

Assad stressed during the meeting the “good” ties with Iraq and the ongoing counter-terrorism cooperation, reported state agency SANA.

He emphasized the need to maintain this cooperation to eliminate the remaining terror pockets in Syrian and Iraqi territories.

Assad and Fayadh also discussed the regional and international situations, with the Syrian leader underlining the recent positive developments, most notably the restoration of security and stability in the majority of Syrian and Iraqi cities.

The people’s will to preserve the sovereignty of their countries was stronger than foreign plots, he stated.

For his part, Fayadh said: “The success of the Iraqi people in confronting terrorism and the victories Syria achieved in restoring security throughout the majority of its territories is good news for the entire region.”
