The Old Students of School of Science,
Ile Ife, Osun State, have donated laboratory equipment worth millions of
naira to the school, with a call on privileged Nigerians to contribute
to making available quality education in public schools.
Making the donation on behalf of the
alumni of the school, the President, Old Students Association, School of
Science, Ile Ife, Dr Muyiwa Ojo, urged Nigerians to always look back
and assist their former school, as their involvement remained critical
in assisting government to properly fund the sector.
He then called on Osun State Government
to replace the decaying infrastructure in the school in the interest of
the current pupils.
Ojo said, “We are here to hand over
laboratory equipment worth millions of naira to students of this great
school, so that they can also have the same standard of education we had
back then and hope they can have a better future.
“All these dilapidated buildings were
beautiful structures when we were here. We had different kind of
equipment; we had the best set of teachers during our time. Our library
was well stocked and laboratory well equipped.
“We plead with Osun State government to
come to the aid of this school. The infrastructure are decaying and
urgent step must be taken to keep this school in existence. On our part,
we will keep supporting the school.”
In his remarks, the pioneer president of
the school’s old students association, Mr Kamil Aransi, said the
association was committed to giving back to the school, and would
continue to intervene in the areas of need of the pupils.
Receiving the equipment, the principal,
Mr Olagoke Obi, commended the association for giving back to the school,
saying the equipment would assist teachers to impart knowledge on the
pupils.
