The acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu has disbanded the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS and ordered state police commissioners to command the squads in their locations.
Mohammed Adamu also scrapped two other Police squads, and created a Special election investigation team.
Less than a month to the start of the elections, the police continue to develop strategies for smooth polls.
As with previous elections, providing a secure environment for the conduct of the polls remains a daunting task.
At this inaugural meeting with senior officers, the acting Inspector General of police acknowledges the enormity of the task.
Undertaking the task, the police chief sets out by decentralising the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SAR. He also scrapped special units such as the Special Tactical Squad.
The police are also devising ways of working with the electoral umpire, INEC, in ensuring the election are hitch free.
