Both Leeds and Newcastle need additions at the back, with the Whites short in that area and the Magpies seeing players in that position get lengthy injuries last season. It’d be a big step up for the Oxford man, but he has talent and is a player on an upward trajectory so it could be a shrewd move.

Newcastle United are one of a host of Premier League clubs reportedly eyeing a move for Wigan Athletic full-back Antonee Robinson

The American international was previously on the books of Everton but, having impressed on loan with the Latics, signed permanently with the club.

And after Wigan’s relegation to League One, Robinson is expected to move on this summer – with a bargain £1.9million release clause putting a number of top flight clubs on red alert.

According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle are one of the sides making admiring glances at Robinson as they weigh-up a summer move. West Brom are also keen, while surprise package Sheffield United are understood to be the front-runners for his signature.

Robinson came close to joining Italian giants AC Milan in January, only to see a £10million move collapse.

And Wigan’s subsequent relegation means that clubs can now pick-up the talented youngster for below a fifth of their previous asking price.
