It is another remarkable feat for Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu-led administration as the Lagos governor inaugurated new governing councils for the state-owned institutions on Wednesday, August 26.
Speaking after the event through a statement on his Twitter page, Governor Sanwo-Olu said it is a dream and priority of his government to bring reform agenda aimed at transforming tertiary institutions in Lagos state into innovation centres.
Our reform agenda is aimed at transforming tertiary institutions in Lagos into innovation centres. To achieve this, yesterday, I inaugurated the governing councils of LASU, LASPOTECH, AOCOED and MOCPED to drive this vision.
The news men gathered an information that the schools with the newly sworn-in councils are Lagos State University (LASU) and Lagos State Polytechnic (LSPOTECH). Others are Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education (AOCOED) and Michael Otedola College of Primary Education (MOCPED).
"We took the time to select distinguished Nigerians as members of the Councils. I have no doubt that we have chosen wisely with the calibre of people we picked. "The appointment comes with huge responsibilities that must be discharged with integrity, foresight and dedication," Sanwo-Olu said. The governor noted that tertiary institutions are critical in nurturing individuals to become innovators and wealth creators who contribute to accelerating the growth of the economy.
He also charged the governing councils to deliver their new responsibility with integrity, foresight and dedication.
"Our goal is to turn our schools around to become models of excellence in the delivery of high-quality education," also Sanwo submitted. The event was also graced by the deputy governor of Lagos state, Obafemi Hamzat, and other top members of of the current Lagos state government.
