As it has been in existence in Igbo Land, there are four market days in the Igbo kingdom namely, EKE, ORIE, NKWO and AFOR market days. The Igbo people have been in existence for over 100 decades and has always maintained their way of life (CULTURE), the Igbo man is a lover of culture just as a philosopher is a lover of wisdom. The four market days in Igbo land is something the Igbo man never plays with, that’s why all the market areas in the Igbo communities is been identified by these names EKE, ORIE, NKWO and AFOR. For example, go to any Igbo market and ask of the name, what you will hear is: ORIE-EGBELU, NKWO-AGBALA, AFOR-EGBU and also you will hear EKE-OHA which is the purpose of writing this article.
EKE-OHA according to my daddy, started in the year 1926 after the aba women conflict. Eke-Oha as the name says is a market day in Igbo land, been the name of ulakwo’s market, the people of ulakwo recognizes any Eke market day after 25thDecember of every year as a great festival in the community. This festival of ulakwo people has been in existence for over 91 years and will continue to exist still the end of time.
